Lanie Goble Wells Dies at Age of 84; Funeral Services are held
February 7
Mrs. Lanie Goble Wells, 84, member of prominent family of this
area, died at 11:30 a.m. February 5, at the home of a daughter,
Mrs. Ad Selvage, in West Van Lear, Mrs. Wells death followed a
brief illness.
She born in Martin County, March 10, 1880, a daughter of the late
John and Lucretia Harless Goble, She had been a resident of
Johnson County most of her life and was affiliated with the Church
of Christ.
Her husband, James H. Wells, died February 4, 1948.
Surviving are three sons, Paris Wells, Meally; John Kelly Wells,
Huntington, W.Va. Fred Wells, Lancer ; four daughters, Mrs. S.C.
Honeycutt, Auxier; Mrs. Anna Burchett, Lancer; Mrs. Esta Mae
Selvage and Mrs. Irene Wells, both of West Van Lear .
Also surviving are two brothers, John Goble, West Van Lear; Abe
Goble, Inez; Mrs. Alice Setser, Endicott Ky.; Mrs. Edith Cornett,
Prestonsburg, and 18 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and
one great grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, February 7, at
the West Van Lear Church of Christ by Cecil Sherman.
Pallbearers were James Kelly Wells, Robert Burchett, James
Douglas Wells, Larry Joe Wells, Franklin Honeycutt, Donald Wells,
Billy Ray Burchett, and Dr. William Shells.
Burial was in Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville.
