DOLORES WITTEN
1925-2014
Dolores V. Witten, age 89, of Paintsville, Kentucky, passed away Friday,
November 7th, 2014 at Mt. Manor of Paintsville.
Dolores was born October 19th, 1925 in Tutor Key, Kentucky, daughter of the
late, Minnie McKenzie VanHoose and Hoy VanHoose. In addition to her parents,
she is preceded in death by one son, James C. Witten, Jr., one brother, Hoy
VanHoose, two sisters, Ida Mae Grim and Helen Frances Gray, and four
grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, William D. “Bill” Witten and wife Sharon of
Sitka, Kentucky and Robert “Bob” Witten and wife Debbie of Sitka, Kentucky;
one sister, Emma Jean Blanton of Staffordsville, Kentucky; one brother, Harry
Thomas VanHoose of Paintsville, Kentucky; seven grandchildren and seven great
grandchildren; best friend, Laura Hovatter of Venice Florida; and a special
friend and caregiver, Geraldine Owens along with a host of nieces, nephews,
friends in Johnson County and Lexington, KY.
She was active in P.T.A. while her sons were in school at Flat Gap
Elementary, member of Eastern Star No. 320, Paintsville, Kentucky, White
Shrine Lodge No. 21, Paintsville, Kentucky, D.A.R., Paintsville, Kentucky,
Central Baptist Hospital Auxiliary, Lexington, Kentucky, Kentucky Mansions
Preservation Foundation-Mary Todd Lincoln House, and Gardenside Christian
Church, Lexington, Kentucky.
Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Sunday, November 9th, 2014 in the
Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel with James Kelly Caudill officiating.
Burial will follow in the Highland Memorial Park, at Staffordsville,
Kentucky.
