George E. Powers, 88, of Auxier, died Friday, Nov. 17, at
Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg.

Born Aug. 2, 1918, at Lancer, he was a son of the late David and
Jinnielee Honeycutt Powers. He was a member of Auxier Freewill
Baptist Church and a retired coal miner.

He was also preceded in death by a son, James L. Powers; three
brothers, James, Orville and Elzie Powers; and three sisters,
Maggie Hatfield, Mary Belle Clifton and Sophie Wells.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby E. Griffith Powers; three sons,
Darrell Powers and Michael Powers, both of Auxier, and Cecil
Powers of Massillion, Ohio; four daughters, Brenda Davis of New
Comerstown, Ohio, Neva Ferrell of Como, Fla., Laverne McClure of
Navarre, Ohio, and Georgia Marsillett of Prestonsburg; 25
grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-
grandchildren.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Auxier Freewell Baptist
Church, with Bobby Joe Spencer, David Powers and Southie Fannin
Jr. officiating.

Burial was in Highland Memorial Park, Staffordsville, under
direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
