ED SMITH
1878-1963
Ed Smith, 84, merchant of Swamp Branch, died in a local hospital
at 8:40 p.m., Monday, September 2, after an extended illness.
The son of the late Charlie and Mary Steele Smith, he was born
September 7, 1878, in Carter County.
He had lived at Swamp Branch for the past twenty years and prior
to moving to that place had resided at Salyersville.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Flora Williams Smith; four sons,
Preston Smith, Stockbridge, Mich.; Earl Smith, Claypool, Mich.;
Edgar Smith, Akron, Ind.; Lawrence Gray Smith, New Carlisle, Ohio;
two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Poe, Salyersville; Mrs. Jewel Sparks,
Akron, Ind.; a brother, John Smith, Michigan.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Thursday at the
Third Street Freewill Baptist Church with Adam Marshall and Scott
Castle as officiating ministers.
Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park Cemetery.
