Coal miner Jess Tackett, 79, died Saturday, December 21, in a local hospital
after an extended illness.
 
Born in Johnson County on April 9, 1889, he was the son of the late Billy
and Polly Caudill Tackett and was a resident of West Van Lear at the time of
his death.
 
Survivors include the wife, the former Alice Brown; six sons, Densil Lee of
West Van Lear, James and Turner of Baltimore, OH, Burnis of Florida, Enus of
Moundsville, WV and Carl Webb of Munith, MI; two daughters, Marie Allen and
Geraldine Crum of Florida. Additional survivors include a brother Clyde
Tackett of Paintsville and a sister, Phoebe Collins of Garrison.
 
Services were held Thursday, December 26, in the West Van Lear Church of
Christ with Cecil Sherman officiating.
 
Burial followed in Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville.
 
The Jones and Preston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
