Ashland Wallen, 54, died Thursday, May 25, in Paintsville Hospital after a
sudden illness.
 
Born September 14, 1923 in Jenkins, he was the son of Sam and Garrett
Wallen.
 
Mr. Wallen was a resident of Paintsville, a retired sheriff’s deputy and
employee of the Paintsville police department, a member of Paintsville Lodge
381 F &AM and a veteran of World War II.
 
Surviving are his wife, Francis Wallen, a son, Doug Wallen, Paintsville, a
daughter, Nancy Wallen, Paintsville, three sisters, Ruth Russell, West Van
Lear, Shirley Jones, Corbin, and Deloris Ray, Florida, two brothers, Arthur
Lee Wallen, Delbarton, WV and Don Wallen, Florida, his step mother, Maggie
Wallen Wheelwright and two grandchildren.
 
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 28, in Jones- Preston Funeral Home
Chapel with Rev. Graham Abbott officiating.
 
Burial was in Highland Memorial Park, Staffordsville, with Jones-Preston
Funeral Home handling arrangements.
 
Paintsville Masonic Lodge 381 F & AM conducted Masonic services. Serving as
pallbearers were Harold VanHoose, Andy Blanton, Tim Hazelette, Guy Dozier,
Phillip Nickell and David Wheeler,
