Melvin Wallen, 67, died Sunday, May 8, in Xenia, OH, after an extended
illness.
 
Mr. Wallen was born January 17, 1910, in Johnson County, the son of William
and Gypsie Murray Wallen.
 
He had been a member of the River United Baptist church for 37 years.
 
Surviving are his wife, Mabel Perry Wallen; three sons, Bill of River, James
M. and Harold D., both of Xenia, five brothers, Ervin and Virgil, both of
Williamsport, Floyd of Tutor Key, Meril of River and Ballard of
Catlettsburg; seven sisters, Faye Wallen of Ashland, Dorothy Daniels, Betty
Stapleton, Olga Clay, Garnett Wiley and Mae Price, all of River and Edith
VanHoose of Wilmington, OH, 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
 
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 12 in the River United Baptist
church with Reverends Florida Lyons, Charlie Price and Robert Murray
officiating.
 
Burial was in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville with Jones-
Preston Funeral Home handling arrangements.
