WILLIAM WARD
1893-1961

William Ward, 68, well-known resident of this city, died in St.
Mary’s Hospital at 4:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 6, of a heart
attack after an illness of six days.

The son of James and Elizabeth Venters Ward, he was born in Inez
February 15, 1893, and had lived in this city thirty-two years.
Prior to his retirement he was Superintendent of Production for
Kentucky-West Virginia Gas Company for many years. He was a member
of Mayo Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nancy Powers Ward, whom he married
February 24, 1920, in this city; a son, William Ward, Jr., Saginaw,
Michigan; two daughters, Mrs. Quentin Conley and Mrs. Walter Brugh,
both of this city, two brothers, Floyd Ward, Talpa, Texas; Fred
Ward, Wooster, Ohio; four sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Payne and Mrs. Hays
Muncy both of Wooster, Ohio; Mrs. Charles Halstead, Orlando, Fla.;
Mrs. A. R. Cassidy, Pickney, Michigan.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday at the Mayo
Memorial Church with Rev. Charles Perry and Rev. C. F. Allan as
officiating ministers.

Active pallbearers were O. T. Dorton, William G. Bailey, Harry Snow
Roberts, Dr. R. M. Wilhite, Jr., C. O. Wheeler, Jr., Robert Conley,
Oran Teater and Oliver Roberts.

Honorary pallbearers were Irvin Arrowood, D. H. Dorton, Sr., C. C.
Williams, Philip Jenkins, C. R. Cooper, Charlie Conley, O. O.
Roberts, C. O. Wheeler, Sr., Jim McKenzie, Dr. J. W. Turner and Jim
Pelphrey.

Burial was in the Ward Cemetery.
