Velma Lou Banks Wells, 66, of Van Lear, died Sunday, April 28, at
Three Rivers Medical Center, Louisa.
Born May 29, 1946, in Johnson County, she was the daughter of the late
George and Eulia Boyd Banks. She was a homemaker.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Benny Banks and George
Banks Jr.; and three sisters, Judy Writtenhouse, Billie Sue Miller and
Bonnie Webb.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Wells; three sons, Richard
Scott Wells of Van Lear, Kenneth Ray Wells of Charleston, W.Va., and
Bryan Joseph Wells of Staffordsville; two daughters, Patricia Ann
Dickerson and Billie Jo Wells, both of Van Lear; five brothers,
Charles Banks and Lloyd Banks, both of Van Lear, Bobby Banks of West
Van Lear, Roger Banks of Sevierville, Tenn., and William Banks of West
Liberty; three sisters, Essie Harlan and Dottie Brown, both of Wabash,
Ind., and Nila Collins of Van Lear; nine grandchildren; and four
great- grandchildren.
Funeral services were Wednesday, May 1, at Van Lear Freewill Baptist
Church, with Paul Wayne Browning officiating.
Burial was in Highland Memorial Park, Staffordsville, under direction
of Jones-Preston Funeral Home, Paintsville.
