Retired miner, John Wilcox, of Wittensville died Friday, May 30 in a local
hospital at the age of 72.
  
Born in August 1897, he was the son of Robert and Lydia Meade Wilcox. He was
a member of the Freewill Baptist Church at Mouth of rush.
 
Survivors include his wife, Rosa Sadler Wilcox, six sons, Robert of Thealka,
Norman of Wharton, WV, Clifton of Van Lear, Galen, of Staffordsville,
Johnnie of Paintsville, and Charles of Ypsilanti, MI; and four daughters,
Kathlene Schaffer of New Jenoy, MD, Jean Ward of Harrington, VA, Ann Blevins
of Paintsville and Eunice Collins of Wittensville. Surviving brothers and
sisters, include Dora Wilcox, Tavie Daniels, Delphie Ratliff and Flossie
VanHoose, all of Paintsville. Twenty four grandchildren and three great
grandchildren also survive.
 
Rites were held Monday, June 2, at the Mouth of Rush Freewill Baptist Church
with Willard Wilcox and John Frank Ratliff officiating.
 
Burial was followed in the Wilcox Cemetery at Wittensville, under the
direction of the Jones-Preston Funeral Home.
