J. Richard Elsesser, 90, of 2186 Lycoming Creek Road, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at his home.
Richard and his wife, the former Grace A. Smith, observed their 70th anniversary on July 4.
Richard, his wife and family operated Elsesser's Potatoes. He was a 1940 graduate of Lewistown High School, a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Born Oct. 28, 1921, in Lewistown, he was the son of Henry and May Sellers Elsesser.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, J. Richard (Lionelle) Elsesser Jr. of St. Louis, Mo.; daughters, Dawn L. Elsesser of Montoursville, Dana L. Elsesser of Chicago, Ill. and Devon L. (Leonard) Bower of Cogan Station; brothers, Harold of Fort Meyer, Fla. and Samuel of Lewistown; sisters, Vera Havice of Belleville and Shirley Kline of McClure; grandchildren, Brian Elsesser, Danica Enlow, Janice and Alaine Bower and Karen Colegrove; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Knight-Confer's, 1914 Memorial Ave., with the Rev. Dr. James R. Behrens officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday.
