Many hearts were saddened in Huntingdon on Monday afternoon when it became known that Mrs. Nannie Belle Davis, widow of Henry H. Davis, had passed away at her home, 422 Washington street. Death came at 3:30 o'clock on Monday afternoon February 7, 1938. Mrs. Davis had been ill during the past three weeks.
She was born in Marklesburg on January 17, 1859, and was the daughter of John Wesley and Catherine (Vandevender) Householder, both deceased. At the time of death Mrs. Davis was aged 79 years and 20 days.
Mrs. Davis was a faithful and devout member of the Abbey Church of Huntingdon. To those privileged to know her, she was very kind and thoughtful and generous. The simplicity and serenity of her truly Christian life were shown everywhere. She will indeed by greatly missed by her immediate family and a host of friends.
On December 16, 1883 she was united in marriage to Henry H. Davis, of Marklesburg. To this union eight children were born, seven of whom are living.
Mrs. Davis leaves to mourn her passing these seven children: Mrs. Speer (May) Appleby, of Altoona, Mrs. Carried Allison, of Huntingdon, Mrs. J. H. (Grace) Lininger, of Huntingdon, Mrs. Jesse (Cora) Beck, of Wilkinsburg, Mrs. Frank (Lena) Leister, of Huntingdon, Harry W. Davis, of Huntingdon. One brother, John W. Householder, of Marklesburg and Huntingdon, and ten grandchildren, also survive.
One son, Charles R. Davis, Sr., of Huntingdon, preceded his mother in death a year ago.
Funeral services will be held at Brown's funeral parlors on Thursday afternoon, February 10, 1938, at 2 o'clock, with the Rev. Hobart D. McKeehan, D. D., officiating. Interment will be made in Riverview cemetery.
Friends may call at the Davis home, 422 Washington street, anytime after ten o'clock Wednesday morning, until 12 o'clock noon, Thursday, when the body will be taken to Brown's funeral parlors for the services.
