Zetta's Flowers-2001

To start with, this is a picture of my GGGGgrandfather Benjamin Drake's gravestone, located in the Drake (Fitzsimmons) cemetery in Elizabethton, Carter County, TN. The wording on the gravestone is shown below the stone.

In memory of
Benjamin Drake
Died Jan 1, 1827
In his 98 year

The rest of this page shows the photos of my family dating back to my Ggrandfather Benjamin Franklin Drake (1845-1919) and my Ggrandmother Elizabeth Boyd (1846-1926) His father was Isaac Drake (1815-Aft 1900) and his mother was Nancy Johnson (1820-Aft 1900). I only have the pictures of their gravestones shown in the Drakes Creek Cemetery Photos. The dates shown on their gravestones are incorrect as they were living with their son Wilson E. Drake in the 1900 census. I certainly would love to have pictures of them to add to this page. The gravesite for Jacob Drake (1779-1856)is unmarked. Jacob Drake was my GGGgrandfather who settled in Madison County, AR on a stream which would later be named after him Drakes Creek, AR. Please feel free to save any of these photos for your own file. That's me on that little used tricycle when I was three.

Listed below are those same boys and Chloe pictured above. This picture withstood a fiery blaze and that's the cause of the dimmed out features you view here.

I found this picture of the Goodluck School which is located south of Georgetown about a mile. My mother and father both attended Goodluck School when they were very young. On the back row if you count from the right to the left on the back row over to the seventh boy, that's my father "Bill" Drake. On the front row if you count from the right to the left, the fourth one over is my mother Carrie Lucille Glenn. Mr. John Harrison, seen on the far right of the photo was the teacher of all these classes. He would spend a certain amount time each day in each class. He also boarded at my grandfather's house, Adam Jackson Glenn, while the school year was in session. Grades taught were the first through the eighth grades. My father went through the sixth grade and my mother through the eighth grade. The school sat along the banks of Goodluck Creek which ran into Drakes Creek about a mile north.

"WAR"

In the photos shown below shows my first leave home. I only had five days at home when I was required to report back for duty and to help place into commission the ship on the right named the USS Fergus APA-82. It was a brand new ship out of the San Pedro shipyards where we placed it into commission and took it on it's initial shakedown cruise. The APA stands for Auxillary Personal Attack. We would take on troops of 800 men and land them on the islands of the South Pacific in which the enemy occupied. We carried fifteen P boats in which to land the troops. You can see one of those boats in the water at the rear or stern of the ship. Another is being lowered on this side or the port side of the ship. This was my home for the next couple of years. We travelled over 100,000 miles on this ship to various parts of the South Pacific. Our last landing was at the island of Okinawa. The war came to an end when our forces dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It was all over and we all looked forward to coming home again.
What a day it was. I was discharged out of the Memphis Discharge Center. I had to stand up in the bus all the way from Memphis, TN. to Fayetteville, AR. I didn't mind that because I knew I was coming home. I called home to Elkins, about ten miles out of Fayetteville and told my family I was home. They were at the breakfast table eating, when all at once they all jumped up loaded in the car and were there at the bus station in no less than twenty minutes. I never had so much hugging and kissing and being wanted than I did at that very moment. My mother fixed a whole other breakfast for me when we got to the house. On an old wood cook stove, that took a while but the wait was worth it. The R.E.A. finally got electricity to us about eight months after I got home. After my discharge from the navy, and during the first years of employment with the telephone company, I met the Queen of my heart. That's her to the right. We dated for a couple of years and decided to get married. What a wonderful woman she was and has been throughout our married life. We just celebrated our 45th anniversary this year 1998. I could have searched the world over, and never would have found a more compatable woman to spend the rest of my life with. She is a wonderful mother of our three children, and my companion. I thank the Lord every day that He directed us together.

Now

Later on the wedding of Brad and Julie

Even later on came Andrew and Zachary

These are my two grandsons, Andrew on the left and Zachary on the right. They are a couple of "Great Guys" and are heavy in sports. They, like other boys, are full of "zip" and are ready to play just about any sport you're up to playing with them.

The next big event to happen was the marriage of Carrie and Mike Howrey. Also shown are their two loveable cats.

Shown below is the 3rd grandson, Drake Dylan Howrey, son of Carrie and Mike Howrey, born April 5, 2004.Shown on the right is our only granddaughter,Loren Tracey Howrey born November 10, 2005.

Finally, you can take a look at the old Drakes Creek Hotel, where many a salesman stayed during it's operations in the late 1800's and early 1900's.
