The LEAF looked down from lofty height
And viewed the quiet glade.
Where soon discarded, it must rest
It's use expired as shade.
The tall oak tree had kept the LEAF
from bud to green adult
It's shaded input on the ground
Produced a cool result.
But summer changed the little LEAF
From green to vivid brown.
It soon must grab a breeze and ride
It's shadow to the ground.
Much like the LEAF as persons we,
Must honor time's decree,
And as the LEAF departs the branch,
We too our family tree
Then comes a day, the summary shows,
Our contributions made,
We go the way and lay we like
The brown LEAF on the glade.
This poem was written by C. Carl Drake, my brother. Carl had a keen sense about life and how we progress through it. Carl was a fine Christian man, who has written many poems, with the Lord as the main subject in mind as he wrote.
Carl died July 2, 1994 in Chattanooga, TN. That was the time when Carl's brown LEAF departed the branch, and he too his family tree.
Likewise, Evelyn Rose Drake, Carl's wife, died September 26, 2001.
A much greater life they will now enjoy, as they join that eternal family there in heaven.
