Cedar Creek Friends Cemetery was begun soon after Cedar Creek Preparative Meeting was set of by Salem Friends Monthly Meeting in January 1841. To the right of the archway the stones are placed in order of burial. Many stones in this part of the cemetery are now buried under sod. First burial found is for Edward Hockett a hand carved stone with year 1841 on it. Documents say he died 28 March 1841. My first ancestor buried there was Zachariah Hodson buried in September 1843.
To get to the cemetery from Mt. Pleasant go west on 34 to Franklin Avenue (W55). Go South towards Salem. Take 285th Street west and then north on Erickson Drive. There was a dirt road the road before 285th that could also be taken west and then south on Erickson Drive. Cedar Creek Friends Church is just north of the cemetery. There are pictures of Cedar Creek Church on this web page http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jeanlee/Jean.html
The cemetery is on the east side of the road and is cared for by the Cedar Creek Friends Cemetery Association, Inc. Our operating expenses are paid from donations to the cemetery. It costs ca $2,000 a year to mow the cemetery.
Donations may be mailed to Treasurer: Jean Leeper, 910 S Oakbrook Drive, Mt. Pleasant, IA 52641 Jean has searched microfilms of old church records searching for names of all buried there. No one record seems to be complete.
We have placed a sign in the cemetery with our plat of the cemetery and alphabetical listing of burials.
