Located in Section 9 in Scott County. Take Oasis Avenue north of Winfield. There are two houses across the road from each other. The sign is on the west side of the road by the first drive into that home.

Bartholomew Hochreiter was the first settler in Scott Township. He was raised and educated in Bavaria, Germany. It is said he spoke seven languages and had a title. After finishing his education he came to America to visit and upon missing the last ship to Germany in time for his military service and knowing he would be in serious trouble were he late, he remained in America. He married in Philadelphia and lived in PA. and Lancaster, Ohio for about ten years and then in Monmouth, IL. From there he and his wife and four children, came to Scott county Iowa, arriving in 1836. He homesteaded 320 acres along Crooked Creek.

Contact Bill Klopfenstein, he can get permission for you to see the cemetery.

This sign is just south of the house. Another house is across the road.

Looking north from the farm, the red X marks the spot of the cemetery.

A closer view of the area as you walked in. Can drive in after corn out.

Pioneer Cemetery, Hochreiter, Established 1847.

Another view of cemetery there are ten stones.
