Her Obit

Death has again entered one of the homes of our community and taken from it the loving mother, Aunt Pamelia Maxwell who died Monday, August 31, 1896, after a lingering illness of over eight weeks duration.

Pamela Mendenhall was born in North Carolina, August 26, 1817. She with her parents moved to Indiana in 1836 thence to Iowa in 1838, settling at the home which she ever since almost occupied until a few weeks previous to her death, when she went to visit her daughter Mrs. W. D. Trueblood expecting to return to her home soon, but was taken suddenly ill and since had been gradually failing until death claimed her. She was married to Charles Maxwell July 2, 1846. To this union six children were born, three daughters and three sons, of which three sons and two daughters still survive her and administered to her in her last sickness. She embraced the Christian religion in early womanhood in which faith she lived and often spoke of her readiness to die; especially in her late illness when suffering almost ore than human strength could endure she would express her eagerness to be released from this world of sorrow and pain and to be taken home to eternal rest and peace. But she always wished to be entirely resigned to God;s will and would pray for patience to wait her time which came to her at last and she is now basking in the sunlight of heaven. such a life as hers can but inspire others to nobler Christian lives.
