One of
the first things that excited me about my research was the realization
that our Grandfather was a PIONEER! A word that only had meaning in
history books and movies, and now I was a descendant of one of those
people who braved and survived the hardships of pioneer life.
There were many who started out with a strong will but, only a few really
stuck it out and stayed when the times got really hard. Daniel was
one of those people and that is why The Family Recoginition Certificate means
so much to me. It may just be a piece of paper to some but, to me it
says everything.

The time I have spent collecting the data and
photo's to prepare for this book has been some of the most rewarding hours
ever. Having never known my Grandfather and Grandmother at all, it has
been amazing to me that I now feel as though they were very much a part of
my life, almost as if I had been there with them on that old homestead in
Nebraska.
It has made me appreciate the Pioneer life and the many hardships that our
ancesters endured during those early years, out there on the prairie at the
mercy of mother nature. It was a time of true reliance upon the Lord
for He was all they had to depend on in the time of deprivation and illness.
And they knew where their blessings came from in their times of plenty, as
it could only have come as answer to prayer.
There are actually four generations between my Grandfather, Daniel, and
me. Daniel was 56 years old when my father, Albert, was born, and my
father was nearly 49 years old when I was born. So, though, Daniel
and Dinah are my grandparents, this book has a span of nearly 200 years from
Daniels birth in 1849 to his many descendants in 2003.
Inside the pages you will find, along with birth and death records, the
story of a family brought to life with all of the joy and sadness in between.
However, it is all of the new and wonderful family members that I have met
along the way that have made this endeavor such a joy. Though we seem
to be scattered all over the United States now, there is still a wonderful
sense of family among us and it is my hope to visit each person before this
book goes to print.
