1836/1837 - Robert Jenkins born in what is now Ritchie Co. WV. Robert is described as being 5 ft and 7 inches tall, hazel eyes, dark hair, and being of dark complexion. (pension and military files)

2 Jul 1859 - Robert Jenkins and Hulda E. Barnett were married in Ritchie Co. WV. (pension files)

10 Aug 1862 - Joined for duty and enrolled at Harrisville, Ritchie Co. WV for a period of 3 years. Age: 26. Joined Co. K, 10th WV Inf. along with brothers samuel and Asa. Brother Joseph had enrolled in the same Company earlier. (military files)

15 Nov 1862 - Mustered in at Beverly WV. (military files)

Aug 1862 - Oct 1863 - Present on muster rolls of Co. K. (military files)

1 Nov 1863 - Sick in US Hospital, Grafton WV. (military files)

Dec 1863 - Jun 1864 - Present on muster rolls of Co. K. (military files)

24 Jul 1864 - Missing in action, Winchester VA (military files)

19 Sep 1864 - Wounded in Action at the Battle of Winchester VA (military files)

25 Sep 1864 - Died of wounds received in Action at Winchester VA 19 Sep 1864. (military files)

25 Sep 1864 - Hulday E. Jenkins, widow of Robert Jenkins is awarded $8.00/month pension commencing 25 Sep 1864. Certificate is dated 9 Aug 1866. (pension files)

9 Jan 1865 - Deep Bottom VA - N. Kuykendall, 1st Lieut. of Co. K, 10th WV Vol. Inf., certifies that Private Robert Jenkins, age 25, born in Ritchie Co. WV, 5 ft. 7 in. in height, dark complexion, hazel eyes, dark hair, and a farmer, enrolled 8 Aug 1862 at Harrisville, WV, and was mustered in to service 15 Nov 1862 at Beverly WV. He states that Robert Jenkins died in a field hospital near Winchester, VA on Sept 20th of wounds received in action 19 Sep 1864. Robert was last paid to include the 30th day of April 1864. He had recieved from the United States clothing amounting to $50.00 since the 30th day of June 1863, when his clothing account was last settled. He has received from the US $25.00 advanced Bounty. 2 May 1865 - Muster-out of Co. K, Richmond, Va, indicate that Robert was killed in action on Sep 19, 1864, at Winchester VA. Age is shown as 25 years. (pension files)

17 Nov 1865 - Memo from Adjutant General's Office, Washington DC, indicates that the Muster-out rolls of Co. K, 10th WV Inf. dated 2 May 1865, reports Robert killed in action Sept 19th, 1864 at Winchester VA. (pension files)

22 Sep 1865 - James McKinney, Recorder of Ritchie Co. WV, certifies that Robert Jenkins and Hulday E. Barnett were married on the 2nd day of July 1959 by John Huff. (pension files)

22 Sep 1865 - Mrs. Hulday E. Jenkins, aged 23 years, resident of Webbs Mills, Ritchie Co. WV, states that she is the widow of Robert Jenkins who was killed in battle on the 24th day of July 1864. She states her name before marriage as Hulday E. Barnett. She further states that her dec. husband left no surviving children. (pension files)

19 Jun 1866 - Ninrod Kuykendall, Late Capt. Co. K, 10th Wv Inf., at Ritchie Court House, WV, "hereby certifies that Robert Jenkins who was a private in said Company, was mustered into the service of the United States at Beverly, WV on the 15th day of November 1863 in Company K in the 10 Regiment West Virginia Vol. Inf and that he served honorably up to his death - that he died the 25 day of September 1864 of wounds received in battle. And further that the said Robert Jenkins was wounded while in line of duty and in battle at Opequon on the 19th day of September 1864 of which wounds he died."

"And further that I have made the above statement from a personal knowledge of the same and of the soldiers conduct and performance of his duties while in the service of the United Sates." (pension files) (Note: Opequon is listed as a post village in Frederick Co. VA)

27 Oct 1886 - Circuit Court of Marshall County, WV: Hulda E. Morris is granted an annulment from Stephen Morris and allowed to resume the name of Hulda E. Jenkins. (pension files)

12 Feb 1887 - Hulda E. Jenkins, of Greene Co. PA, states that "she was married to Stephen Morris 15 Jan 1871 and that she lived with above Stephen Morris about two years before she ascertained that said Stephen Morris had another woman or wife living and that as soon as affiant fount out - that said Stephen Morris has a former woman or wife living - that she the affiant- refused to live with said Morris -any lionger - and that affiant then andthere separated from him - affiant further states that since the year 1871 - she had lived within one hundred yards of the North and South WV line and a part of time in Marshall Co. WV and part of the time in Greene Co. PA." (pension files)

12 Feb 1887 - Elizabeth Barnett, a resident of Deep Valley, Greene Co. PA states that she is the mother of Hulda E. Barnett, widow of Robert Jenkins, now dec. She further states that "Hulda E. Jenkins was married to a man by the name of Stephen Morris from whom she is now divorced. Said Stephen Morris having a wife living when the above named Hulda E. Jenkins was married to him. Hulda E. Jenkins did not know that the said Stephen Morris had ever been married or had a wife living when she married said Morris. Affiant further states that the above named Hulda E. Jenkins never was married to any other man only as stated above, viz - Robert Jenkins and Stephen Morris." (pension files)

15 Feb 1888 - J. W. Hutchinson, of Greene Co. PA, 65 years old, in a statement called Hulda E. Jenkins, Mrs. Ella Jenkins. (pension files)

1 Mar 1917 - Hulda E. Jenkins, pensioner, is reported to have died on this date. (pension files)

NOTE: Several criminal investigation were conducted involving the pension claim of Hulda Jenkins. Hulda had been defrauded by Nelson Virgin and others. Her pension check had been claimed by others. The pension file contains many pages resulting from the criminal investigations.
