Arthur Dawes

This house on the corner of 2nd & Dawes streets was the home of Arthur & Nella (Porter) Dawes. Nella continued living here after Arthur died and was in her late eighties when she died. The property was later sold to Wayne & Sarah Porter. Wayne said the little red brick house at the left may have been an ice house, or for root storage, having 8inch thick outer wall, with an inner wall and sawdust as insulation between them. If anyone has information what this building was used for would like to know. Picture of the Carriage House below:

This building was referred to as a carriage house, located on the same lots as Arthur Dawes home above. Another carriage house similar to this one was at one time accross the street on the C.W. Allen property.
