Eli York born 1845 in Hamilton County, Illinois -  DIED Aug. 19, 1899 -  MARRIED

Eli York served with Company "C" of the Fortieth Regiment Illinois Infantry Volunteers from August 26, 1861 until July 31, 1865 under the Command of Major H.W. Hall (who was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel) and retained his command until the close of the war.  Eli York was engaged in the following battles:

Two day battle at Shiloh, Tennessee - Siege of Corinth, Mississippi - Siege of Vicksburg, Mississippi - Jackson Mississippi - Battle of Mission Ridge, Tennessee - New Hope Church, Georgia - Black Jack Knob, Georgia - Kenesaw Mountain, Georgia - Atlanta, Georgia July 24, 1864 and July 28, 1864 - Ezra Chapel, Georgia - Jonesboro, Georgia - Griswoldville, Georgia - Siege of Savannah, Georgia - Battles on Cumbahe River, South Carolina, Columbus, South Carolina and Bentonville, North Carolina.  These battles are listed on Certificate of promotion dated June 13, 1865 signed by Lieutenant Colonel H. W. Hall.

Certificate of Promotion of Sergeant Eli York to rank of 1st Sergeant from June 13, 1865 dated and signed June 30, 1865 in Louisville, Kentucky by Lieutenant Colonel H. W. Hall.
