Donald Dean Phillips, 82, Golf Course Road, Eldorado, passed away at 7 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at his residence.
Services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado with David Angleey officiating. Burial will be in Douglass Cemetery with military rites by the McLeansboro American Legion. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at the funeral home.
He was born in Carmi on Feb. 26, 1929, to Hal H. and the late Iva (Pyle) Phillips. On May 30, 1951, he married the former Juanita Gunter, who survives in Eldorado.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He attended Broughton Methodist Church. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 318, McLeansboro American Legion Post No. 106 and a life member of the Eldorado VFW. Don was an avid horseman and he loved to fish, hunt and work his bird dogs. He also loved to spend time with his grandkids and great-grandkids on the farm. Family was always first. He was very proud of his three daughters.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Sheryl (Greg) Oglesby of Eldorado, Donita (Barry) Richardson of Benton and Valera (Randy) Peterson of Springfield; two brothers, Jim (Sue) Phillips of Taylorville and Eddie (Bonnie) Phillips of Dale; and a sister, Dana Gaines of Hominy, Okla.; four grandchildren, Josh (Glenda) Hall, Gina (Michael) Hitz, Rachel Peterson and Austin Peterson; two step grandchildren, Autuam Richardson and Amy Oglesby; a great-grandchild, Ashton Hall; and three great-step grandchildren, Ashley Harris, Macklin Hitz and Preston Hitz.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Glen Max Phillips; and two sisters, Sara Jane Phillips and Dena Ruth Phillips.
