With the 7th Infantry Division on Okinawa, June 6. - S-Sgt. Lorenzo Gholson, 25 of Broughton, Ill., an acting platoon sergeant in this famed Pacific division of four major campaigns, is setting a mean pace for fire-control leaders in the 7th.

Recently, when his platoon was held up by Japs controlling a ridge, Gholson called up tanks and mortars to blast them out. Correcting the range and deflection of the shelling he finally succeeded in causing the enemy fire to cease. Upon moving to the Jap emplacement it was found that the sergeant's accurate estimations had brought death to twenty Japs and knocked out three machine-gun positions.

Gholson, who is a veteran of Attu, Kwajalein and Leyte in the Phillippines, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gholson of Broughton.
