DAVID SHIPMAN FAMILY

DAVID SHIPMAN

David Shipman was born in Rutherford Co., N.C. prior to 1790. Some family records show him born in Kentury Feb. 24, 1794. Later records tend to lean toward the earlier birth date. He was the only son of Daniel and Phoebe Shipman.

Family folklore handed down was that David did not know who his parents were and the name Shipman was given him as a result of being an only survivor of a shipwreck as a young boy. However, David is mentioned in the will of his father dated Nov. 8, 1798, Warren Co., KY.

On Aug. 7, 1810 in Barren Co., KY he married Francis (Fanny) Hale. It is not known who her parents were.

We find David in Missouri in about 1840 in Pulaski County.. By 1840 he was living in Jackson Township of Camden Co., He died Sep. 15, 1850 in Camden Co., MO. His wife Fanny was born Mar. 3, 1791 in Georgia and died in Camden Co. on Mar 2, 1869 and is buried in the Graves Hill Cemetery near Passover, MO. Her grave was later moved to the Freedom Cemetery.

David and Fanny had seven children; Lucinda b. Jan. 12, 1812, Susan b. Mar 15, 1815, Martin b. Nov. 25, 1818, Daniel b. Feb. 18, 1824, Sarah b. Sep 15, 1820, Malinda b. Apr. 1, 1827 and John Calvin b. Jun 3, 1830.
