Linda,

In your pictures did you know you have a picture of a person who is dead? The picture of the man in the chair. They are very rare, and to have one of someone in your family is fantastic. Don't freak out. This is the only way that many people got their pictures taken because it was so expensive. I have one, too, but it is of a baby. They used to put them in books called memory books, or something like that. I will have to think about it. But, if you look carefully you will see it. I have looked at so many of them, I know right away. Some of them can be pretty uncanny, but yours is very nice. Mine is, too. You can barely tell the child is dead.

Will send you what I have on this family.

Linda, this is Don's great greandfather Samuel Rogers. He is buried at Pleasant Grove Cem. outside of Macks Creek near the river. In about 1989, we got him a Civil War Tombstone. It reads 1827-1910. Pvt Co L 16th MO Cav. We sent for his pension records which gave all the details. He is buried beside his second wife, Mary Sue Francis Peterson Rogers. He met her in Arknsas during the war. She was young and an orphan. He brought her back to Mo and they were married after the war. He married her Apr. 21, 1864 in Laclede Co. MO. They had one child, Martha Ann who married William Perry O'Bryan. She is buried at Pleasant Grove also. She died at 33 after having four children. Samuel married again after Mary Sue Frances died in 1902. His third marriage was to Omeda Cauhorn. That marriage ended in divorce.

Judy Varner - Nov 5, 2003 Viewers

Linda, we have the picture in an old duegerrotype. Don's mother was able to save a lot of pictures and the original military papers of Samuel. Also his homestead papers. That is how we were able to get him a stone. Unfortunately, the pension records didn't give anything but the year of Sam's birth and death.

Pleasant Grove Cemetery is located Camden County, MO., at the end of State Route U, six miles southeast of Macks Creek. According to several sources, the first person buried there was a negro hobo and former slave who came to the Thomas Meads home and worked for his lodging. Thomas Meads paid for his burial and donated the ground for the cemetery. James Whitworth paid for the cemetery deed to be made. If there is a "*" before the name, remember it is a

Notes for WILLIAM HENDERSON ROGERS/RODGERS:

Query: ROGERS-SKINNER: Patti Cook Bresnehen, 6125 N Xanthus PL, Tulsa, OK 74130-1329.

E-mail: [email protected]

My great-grandfather was William Henderson Rogers, who was born on July 11, 1876, in either Macks Creek or Decaterville in Laclede County.

He married Susan Frances Skinner. She was born in 1876 and died about 1896.

Apparently in August of 1900, my great-grandfather and another man, got into an argument, while at work.
William H. hit him in the head with a board, killing him within minutes.
His brother Jack held the crowd off while my grandfather escaped.

This is in the "Laclede County Sentinel" August 23, 1900 issue.

They called him Henry. He is said to have been apprehended about three months later.
I find him listed as Willie on the 1910 Laclede County census with four children.
I would appreciate any information about him.

Following from Patti Bresnehen

He murdered a man in October of 1902 and ran. Jack his brother held off the crowd so he could get away. I am told his sister Lucinda or Loucindy married a man that he killed. I have not been able to confirm this.

I have or did have the dates of my great grandmother death, as well as his son George having died of T.B. at about 30.
