Note for: Mary Phillips, 1730/31 - 23 FEB 1811 Index
Individual note: Her parents emigrated from Wales, settled in Chester County,
PA. Family tradition speaks of her as being a very lovely
character. Her mother was a Welsh heiress whom her family
wished to marry to one ewually wealthy, but she loved young
Phillips, so they eloped. As the laws of Wales were very
severe for such rebellious acts they came to America. This was
told to Mary Rittenhouse, and she told her children and
grandchildren. ' When Mrs. Phillips died, the children went to
live with an aun and uncle named Bourn, who educated them
religiously and well.' Ref: 'John Bull of Perkiomen' by
