LAND PETITION - OATH OF ALLEGIANCE:
"I certify, that John Anderson born in Pennsylvania States now of West
Flamborough - 19 years in the Province Yeoman, hath taken and subscribed
the Oath of Allegiance as required by Law, before me, at York, in the Home
District, this ninth day of March in the Year of our Lord one thousand
eight hundred and nineteen."
ESTIMATE OF JOHN ANDERSON'S AGE:
Using probable John Anderson cem. transcript, in West Flamborough Presbyterian
Cemetery - Christie Corners:, #110 In memory of John Anderson who departed
this life Oct. 2, 1840 aged 65 yrs 11 m 13 d. (means b. Nov. 18, 1774.)John
had his 1st son in 1800 and if we assume he married at say 20 years old,
this would make him born approx. 1779. The above stone may be for our John.
However until his parents are located we will leave his birth date estimate
as b. abt 1774-80
IMMIGRATION TO ONTARIO FROM PENNSYLVANIA - In 1800:
John entered Canada from Pennsylvania with his wife Susannah and new
born son Henry (b. Apr. 24, 1800). Since Henry is born in PA in April,
then John would have immigrated to Ontario from PA, somtime after April
24, 1800.
SETTLED IN WENTWORTH COUNTY, ONTARIO:
John initially bought Lot 13 Con. 5 East Flamborough Twp. but later
settled on Lot 24 Con. 2 West Flamborough Twp., Wentworth County, Ontario.
John died Oct. 29, 1840.
SERVICE IN WAR OF 1812:
According to John's Land Petition, he fought with the British in the
war of 1812. "That your petitioner has behaved himself as a soldier and
a faithful subject to his Majesty during the late war with the U.States
and he has never obtained any lands or grant of Lands whatsoever under
the Crown"
