Land Purchases and Sales of Felix and Lavina Lewis
On April 2, 1874 Felix purchased 85 acres of land from Eliza and L.W. Prigmore.
On May 2, 1874 Felix and Lavina sold 44 acres of land to A. Houston Weaver, the husband of his wife's sister.
On August 11, 1875 Felix purchased 100 acres of land from Aaron and Elizabeth Bryant and James H. and Laura J. Bryant, his wife's parents and her brother and his wife.
In the 1877 Tax Roll for Collin County, Felix was listed with 140 acres of land and six horses/mules, 16 cattle and 7 hogs.
On Jan. 31, 1878 Felix purchased 85 acres of land from C.N. and M.F. Jarrell.
In the 1880 census for Collin County, dated June 17, 1880, Felix was listed as age 42, farmer. Lavina was listed as "Louiza" age 37. Their children were listed as Andrew 21, William 18, Texas 16, Annie 13, Eddie 12, Lizzie 8, Martin 6, Louella 4, and James 2. They lived in the Walnut Grove area.
On Sept. 10, 1881, Felix purchased 40 acres of land from E.T. and Z.T. Peak.
On Aug. 25, 1882, Felix purchased 45 acres of land from Isaac and Elizabeth Griffin.
On Oct. 10, 1882, Felix purchased 280 acres of land from G.W. and Maggie Drennan.
On Oct. 26, 1885, Felix Grundy, Jaile (Jalah), Lavina and Samuel J. sold 136.6 and 144.7 acres of land to S.J. Lewis and F.G. Lewis. These were "partnership deeds". Samuel J. Lewis was son of Samuel Lewis of Cocke County, TN. Note: Samuel J. Lewis or S.J. was the father of Lowery Layman Lewis, who attended school to become a veterinarian and later became college professor at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla. He basically began the process that started the football program there and because of this they named the present 50,000 seat Lewis Stadium for him. He was interim president of OSU for a time in the early 1920's. He also donated a library of books to the college as well. The Layman name came from Lowery's grandmother Susannah Layman who married Samuel Lewis, brother to Martin.
On Dec. 30, 1887, Felix released lien on 109 acres of land to Joel Lewis, son of Richard Lewis of Cocke County.
On Dec. 10, 1888 Felix and Lavina sold 41 acres of land to John G. Kissinger, husband of their daughter, Anne Lewis.
On Jan. 19, 1889, Felix released lien on 11 acres of land to Elijah Baxter, husband of his wife's sister.
On July 7, 1890 Felix purchased Lot 58 in McKinney from J.L. and L.H. White.
On Oct. 29, 1890 Felix and Lavina sold land (lot in McKinney?) to J.L. and L.M. Greer.
On Dec. 18, 1890 Felix received payment on a lien of 95 acres of land from Elijah Baxter.
On Aug. 4, 1891, Felix purchased 53 acres of land from J.P. and M. A. Tuner.
On March 2, 1895, Felix sold 200 acres of land in J. Crutchfield survey to John H. Lewis, a cousin, and son of Asa Perry Lewis. It was a Quit Claim and was recorded April 12, 1895.
On Oct. 4, 1895, Felix purchased 30 acres of land from E.and T. Bush.
On Dec. 2, 1895, Felix purchased 5 acres of land from J.C. and Sarah Williams.
On July 24, 1897, Felix purchased 31 acres of land from L.V. and Lizzie Smith.
In the 1900 census for Collin County, Felix Grundy Lewis was listed as age 62, Lavina age 57, marrried for 42 years with 12 children, all living.
On Nov. 16, 1903, Felix and Lavina sold 30 acres of land in T. H. Searcy survey to A.J. Lewis their son.
In 1905, they sold 50 acres in T.H. Searcy survey, 12 acres in S.B. Searcy survey, 47 acres in T.H. Searcy survey, 62 acres in L. Searcy survey and 25 acres in C. Boles survey to relatives and in-laws. In all, Felix and Lavina had over 1,000 acres of land over time.
Felix Grundy Lewis died at age 72 in Collin County
