This Steamer DUQUESNE is first mentioned during January 1907 when it is renamed from the H. M. HOXIE.  On April 5, 1911 the boats dimensions are given.  Final entry is June 27, 1922 as the DUQUESNE's hull is "tore up" across from the Ways.

 

Steamers DUQUESNE and HENRY LOUREY in 1908    Steamer DUQUESNE and HENRY LOUREY lead the 1908 Riverboat Parade  DUQUESNE and HENRY LOUREY lashed together for river boat parade as part of 1908 Pittsburgh Sequi-Centennial added 3/5/18

The names DUQUESNE and HENRY LOUREY are linked in Pittsburgh river history. These two boats were tied together and were the flagships for the 1908 River Parade as part of the Pittsburgh Sequi-Centennial celebration.

 

 

The second Steamer DUQUESNE that JW writes about in his journal was bought by Carnegie Steel Company in 1917, originally named MAMIE BARRETT.  This DUQUESNE is first mentioned by JW on December 3, 1917 as colliding with the Steamer MONITOR.  On January 6, 1918 this boat is froze up unable to move.  October 22, 1920 has the boat at the Elizabeth Marine Ways.  JW also notes seeing this boat on July 10, 1929 after it was renamed DONALD BIRMINGHAM.

This Steamer DUQUESNE, owned by United States Steel Corporation, was built in 1929.  JW writes about seeing the "new" Steamer DUQUESNE on April 8, 1930, he writes in error that she is owned by Carnegie Steel Company.
