   Steamer G. W. THOMAS

Steamer ALICIA icebound during February 1918 near Brownsville, PA   Photo from collection of David Gratz

The G.W. THOMAS was built in 1901 and worked the rivers around Pittsburgh.  In 1912 she was sold to a new owner and taken to Elizabeth, PA to be overhauled.  After this work was completed she was renamed ALICIA.  It is not known if the Elizabeth Marine Ways was the location of this boat being overhauled as  JW does not mention either of these boats names in his journal.

The ALICIA sank in ice during February 1918, two photos above appears to be of this event.
