December 1917
was according to JW the "worst winter" with "the thickest
ice I have ever seen." The photos below are dated January
1918, taken from various locations along the Monongahela River, showing
the thick ice JW wrote about. My impression is that the
photographer,most probably Captain Robert Eberhart, drove along the
river taking the photos at these locations.
