She was born 17 Jan 1817 and died: 12 Sep 1899 buried in Kelly Cem., Green Co., WIRef: Black, Stephen D.- Probate File A1130 pg 363, administrators Gilbert Black and George B. Black. FAR, 6:121 and FAR 7:123,124. In administration of the estate, received from rent includes P. Baker of PA; real estate taxes paid; D. W. Black mentioned as a heir; also made a payment to a J. D. Black but no relationship shown.

Civil War Service: David W. Black did serve in the 4th OVI regiment which was organized at Camp Dennision, Ohio in June, 1861. . He entered the service on June 4, 1861 at the age of 44 as a private in company D. for a term of 3 years. He was discharged at Wheeling, W. Virginia on July 14, 1863 with a surgeons certificate of disability, having served just over 2 years. This company had about 20 men over the age of 30 years. Of those 9 were over 40 years. Of those, 3 were over 50 and one over 60 years old. All of these men were privates.

Mrs. Whitehead Taken by Illness - Mrs. Weltha Rachel Whitehead, 74, of 1702 13th St., died today at 11:30 a.m. in St. Clare hospital after an illness of several months. She was admitted to the hospital as a medical patient last evening. The daughter of Stephen and Sarah Decatur Black was born April 13, 1876, in Browntown and was educated in Cadiz schools. She was married Aug. 8, 1897 to Milton Whitehead in Madison and lived south of Browntown on a farm until moving to Monroe in 1927. A member of Immanuel church, the Royal Neighbors of America and Women's Relief corps. she was also interested in flowers as a hobby. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Theodor Shultz of Monroe; two sons, Harld of Monroe and Foster of Freeport; one sister, Mrs. Anna Eveland of South Wayne; a brother, E. D. Black of Judson, Minn., and three granddaughters. She was preceded in death by the husband, Aug. 14, 1943; and three children, Achsa, Elmo and Burnadette. Services are pending further word from relatives. The body has been taken to the Shriner-Neushwander funeral home.
