MILITARY: In printed material from the Black Hawk War 1831-32 Vol. 1 lists in muster roll of Captain William Ross' Co. of the Brigade of Mounted Volunteers Commanded by Gen. Samuel Whitesides, mustered into the Service of the United States at Beardstown, IL 28 day of ____ 1832 #59 Hansebly Horn, Private, 20th April of Pike Co. Co. Further records indicate spelling variations of Hansel G. On Apr 28 this company was divided and a 2nd company formed under Elisha Petty. #7 lists Hansel G. Horn, 4th sergeant. 

MILITARY: There is a Bounty Certificate #238 issued to a Hansel G. Horn: November 10, 1837 Houston, Texas, Hansel G. Horn is entitled to 640 acres of land for service in the Army of Texas, October 20, 1836 to November 8, 1837, attached to Transfer of Certificate November 11, 1837, Houston, Texas, Hansel G. Horn transfers certificate to Henry Barnes, signed Hansel G. Horn. The land was surveyed and was patented 640 acres of land in Wichita Co. No other documents were contained in the file. 

MILITARY: Pay record from the Texas State Archives, Box 12927, Capitol Station, Austin, TX 78711 Document #2485 Hansel G. Horn filed 16 Jun 1837; examined same day, submitted to audit for $38.87; 20th Oct 1836 - in 16 June 1837 - No draft 3063. Attached to this document "War Department, Houston June 17, 1837, The bearer Hansel G. Horn entered the service on the 20th October 1836 and he has pay due him to the 31st May 1837. Signed J. Snively, Acting Sec. of War. A third document: "This Certificate entitles Hansel G. Horn to pay from 31st May 1837 to 8th Nov 1837, as a Private in Captain Samples Company E, 14th? resident Permanent Volunteers. War Department Houston, Nov 8th 1837 signed ?, Secretary of War. Document #4814, $42.13 Hansel G. Horn filed Nov 9, 1837 Examined Same day, Admitted to Audit for $42.13 Military - 31 May 1837 Iso Nov 9 1837, Draft No. 58746, approved 10 Nov 1837 Eill? Pease, Controller. Attached document: Auditor's Office, Houston 9th Nov 1837. This day came Hansel G. Horn and says the annexed instrument is just, true and original, and the only one that he has offered for liquidation: that he owes the goverment nothin on his own account or on account of any other person. What happened to Hanzel after his escape from Alton in 1840?

OBITUARY for his wife: On Sunday, August 9, at the farm near Rocky Ford, of bilious diarrhea, after an illness of a week, Mrs. Amanda Lucas, widow of the later Peter Lucas, at the age of 77. She leaves two sons and three daughters: William Horn, Wiley Horn, Mrs. Eliza Pierce, Mr. W. E. Jones, and Mrs. John Lucas. Funeral services were held on Monday at the house by Rev. J. L. Rind and were largely attended. The procession was a half-mile in length. The Lincoln Herald (Lincoln, IL), August 13, 1885 pg 3 col 5.

PROBATE: Amanda Lucas's Estate record is located in Logan Co., IL Probate Journal #15, pg 513, however, the actual Probate file could not be located at the time of my visit in 1990. Page 513: "that said adm distribute said amount as remaining in his hands by paying to the several heirs, as follows Mary Lucas, Wm. Horn, Harriet Lindsey, Eliza Pierce, Amanda C. Jones, Heirs of Elizabeth Wendell and N. W. Horn each the sum of $122.61, and that he pay the costs of court amounting to $15.80, and that he file vouchers showing said payments and was discharged.
