Hi, my name is Diane Holland. I've been working to bring the entire John and Alcy Jean family together into one source. During my quest, I have met some wonderful people, both descendants of this particular Jean family, and folks who knew some of them. I dedicate this site to them. According to a letter written in 1972 by Edward Isaac Jean (1897-1975), John and Alcy had 18 children--12 boys and 6 girls. Some information is known about 14 of the children. John Joseph Pledger Jean went on a genealogy quest in 1886, traveling through Haralson County, Georgia and interviewing, among others, Hardy Hopson Jean. Hardy named some of his siblings (not all), but he did name two sisters, Carolyn and Sophronia, of whom I had not previously been aware. He said both lived in Arkansas at that time. It appears from the list of names he gave John, the siblings were either ones he kept in touch with or at least the ones who were still alive. Perhaps he thought John wanted to talk with them and there was no reason to give him names of deceased siblings. It is my hope that the information on these pages will assist some researcher descended from this family, or a collateral family, to get a basis for, or add to their research. Any corrections or additions to the information that I do have will be very much appreciated. Please click on the button entitled JEAN FAMILY STORY to begin reading about the family. I also encourage you to sign my guest book or contact me by e-mail. Please enjoy and come back often for updates. You may also search the website for specific individuals using the SEARCH button below. A couple of hints: I have retained the spelling of the surname as JEAN throughout, even though some Jean families changed the spelling to JEANS or JEANE. The name JEAN is on almost every page, so first names would refine the search. This
