THE FAMILY OF
“ELY MACK JORDAN”
or
The Descendants of
“Isham/Isom” Jordan
The research on this family was originally by Cleo Jordan
Ansley, who has worked diligently for years to collect and document what she
could, from family records, stories, and other resources available to her. She graciously shared her information with
her nephew, W. O. Greene, and also with Mary Jordan Crary, who shared it with
Faye Dreadin McBurney. Cleo has now
turned over the “work to the younger generation,” and it is with her work in
mind that we three have tried to carry on.
This is definitely a work in progress, and there is much information
that still needs to be documented.
However, we have to start somewhere.

OUR “BRICK WALL”
ANCESTOR: The father of James Ladson
(Ladston), Ely Mack, and Owen M. Jordan (see below) is believed to have been
Isham/Isom Jordan, who was probably born in S.C. We estimate his date of birth as somewhere in
the 1820’s or shortly before. Family
information says that his first wife -- who was probably the mother of James L.
and Ely Mack -- may have been Frances (Unknown). The mother of Owen M. was, according to Owen’s
death certificate, “Sophis” (Sophie).
There may also have been a sister, or step-sister, named Biddy
(Elizabeth, perhaps), who married Joseph Jernigan. Our knowledge of this family is that they
were at one time in the panhandle of Florida -- Santa Rosa Co., FL, or Walton
Co., FL -- and at the time of the Civil War, moved to the Pollard area of what
was then Conecuh County, Alabama (in 1868, it became Escambia County, Alabama). Names such as “Sardine” and “Barnetts
Crossroad” are also associated with our family, as all of these places are in
Escambia County, Alabama.
These three
Jordan brothers all married Emmons women, who were cousins to each other. See, also, “Emmons Family,” by Viola Jean
Emmons Nichols, p. 110, “Abraham Emmons and Argent G. Roberson,” by Robert
Bradley, p. 110, and “William R. Emmons and Elizabeth Malphus,” by Robert
Bradley, p. 110, all in The Heritage of Escambia County Alabama.
For brevity’s
sake on this website, we are only listing the three brothers and the names of
their children. If you are interested in
more generations, you will have to contact one of us individually.
