
FRANK GOAD CLEMENT
Governor of Tennessee
Frank Goad Clement won the Governor ship of Tennessee on his first attempt and served from 1953-1955.The 1953 convention had altered the Tennessee politics and changed the governors term to four years with no succession permitted. Gov Clement was reelected in 1955 by the most sweeping victories in Tennessee history. He served until 1959. Governor Clement was the Keynote Speaker at the 1956 Democratic National Convention. Frank Clement ran for Govenor again in in 1962 and won, he served another four year term from 1963-1967.

"Until 1953, the term was two years. Governors could succeed themselves for a total of six years, and after being out of the office for a single term, could run again, although only a few succeeded in acquiring the office for a second run of one or more terms."
