THE PRAYER OF FAITH |
|
| Little Alice had been crippled for months, and had to walk with a crutch and sometimes a cane. The doctors would not give her any hope that she would ever walk without a crutch. She often envied the other children as they ran about so freely, while she had to hobble along with a crutch. It was not so bad in the winter-time when she had to be indoors; but when the warm sunny weather came and she felt like racing and skipping, then she grew so tired of her crutch. Alice was a little Christian girl, and often her father read to her of how Jesus healed people when He was here on earth, and they talked about the various healings. But no one in their neighborhood had ever heard about healings in these days. Then one day her father heard of a woman who believed in healing, that is, healing in answer to prayer. At once Alice wanted to go and see her, but her father did not have time to take her except at night, and he did not think that was a good time to go. So they waited, but often talked of finding some way that he might take her to be prayed for. At last one of Alice's little friends heard of their wish to see this woman, and she offered to go with Alice to ask the woman to pray for her. And so Alice had her wish. The woman talked with Alice about what it meant to believe on Jesus for healing; and learned that Alice had committed to memory many Bible verses on healing. Then the woman laid her hands on Alice and prayed for her, asking the Lord Jesus to make her all well. Soon after this the little girls started for their homes. As they walked along near the river bank on their way home, Alice stopped and tossed her crutch far out into the river. She meant to trust the Lord Jesus to heal her; she wanted to lean on his promises and not on the crutch. As the crutch floated away Alice started to walk home. Why! she could walk real well. True, she limped some; but anyway, now that she had no crutch, she just had to walk; yes, and she had to pray all the time that the good God would make her all well. Sure enough, in a few weeks she did not even limp. The doctors were surprised, and could not understand how it was, that she was now well. But Alice knew she had asked the Lord Jesus to heal her, and He had done so. Now she could run and play just as the other children did, and how thankful she was!
