GREENE COUNTY IN 1833

Greene County was created by the State Legislature on January 2, 1833.
It extended to the western and southern boundaries of the State and to the
Osage River on the north, and the Gasconade River on the east. This huge
county, with somewhat vague borders, included what is now McDonald,
Newton, Jasper, Barton, Dade, Lawrence, Barry, Stone, Christian, and
Webster, parts of Taney, Dallas, Polk, Cedar, Vernon, Laclede, Wright,
Douglas and Howell, and for administration purposes parts of Cedar,
St. Clair, Hickory and Benton Counties.

The series of HERITAGE COUNTY ATLAS REPRINTS indexes will include
as many of these early works of original Greene County as possible.
Most of these early atlases are in poor condition with few extant copies.
If not reprinted soon these valuable genealogical works will be lost.
From Heritage County Atlas Reprints; Greene County Archives and Records.

Hard copies of these atlases are available from the archives at minimal cost.
