Baldwin

I am just starting to gather information on the Baldwin Family. I am following in the foot steps of many Baldwin researchers before me. I have found much of my information in the Quaker Monthly Meeting Minutes, Birth and Death records that were kept at each of their meetings. What a great wealth of information. I personally am related to the Baldwin line by marriage, my mother in law was/is a Baldwin. (maiden name) I hope I can do justice to the family here. As I have done with the other family pages, I will try to document here the oldest line I can. Thanks to the great records of the Encyclopedia of Quaker Genealogy I have found quite a bit of information on this family. But as always there are the one's that still elude me and I continue to look for information on. It appears that the records show the Baldwin's came from England in the early to mid 1600's. I, personally, have not gotten that far. John Baldwin and Ann Scott, who married on December 8, 1707, recorded in Falls Monthly Meeting in Bucks Co. PA. I will start this with their son William.

William Baldwin b. February 20, 1720 in PA d. August 19, 1802 married Elizabeth Smith b. (unknown at this time) d. September 9, 1773 New Garden MM, Guilford Co. NC.

William married a 2nd time to Ann (Beals) Hunt on June 18, 1788. She was the widow of Thomas Hunt. She passed on July 10, 1790.

Children of William and Elizabeth:

• John Baldwin b. July 9, 1746 d. September 25, 1824. He married Jemima Sanders b. September 8, 1747 d. September 5, 1833 (that is when it was reported in the Deep River MM) , dt of John and Jane Sanders. I believe they had 8 children (that's how many I can find record of). William, Elizabeth, John, Jesse, Hezekiah, Jane, Sarah and Daniel.

• William Baldwin b. July 26, 1748 d. August 26, 1748

• Ann Baldwin b. May 18, 1750 d. November 22, 1832 in Moorsville, Morgan Co. IN. She married Samuel Millikan on June 10, 1767 recorded in the New Garden MM. They had 10 known children. Elizabeth, Jane, William, John, Sarah, Samuel, Benjamin, Jesse, Ann and Mary.

• William Baldwin b. December 16, 1751/2. I have not found other records yet on this William. I will add information when found.

• Joseph Baldwin b. July 28, 1745 d. August 17, 1755  recorded in the New Garden MM.

• Daniel Baldwin b. September 23, 1756 d. August 14, 1823 in Wayne Co. IN. Married Mary Benbow on November 7, 1781 recorded in the New Garden MM. Her death recorded as August 10, 1823 in Dover MM, Wayne Co. IN. They had 9 known children: Charles, Ann, Arcadia, John, Daniel, Thomas, Mary, Sophia and Elias.

• Jesse Baldwin b. January 26, 1759 d. (unknown at this time) He married Hannah Thornburg/Thornbrough (have seen both spellings in the records) on December 15, 1779 recorded in the New Garden MM. Her parents were Henry and Rachel (Moon) Thornburg. I have no dates for her yet and only 2 children so far. They are Ann who only lived 7 days and Enos.

• Enos Baldwin b. March 9, 1761 d. June 19, 1761 recorded in the New Garden MM.

• Sarah Baldwin b. May 23, 1762 d. September 17, 1796 recorded in the New Garden MM. She married Richard Williams on June 17, 1778 recorded in the New Garden MM. They had 8 children: Jesse, Elizabeth, Asa, Nathan, Richard, Ann, Daniel and Sarah. After Sarah's death Richard married 2 more times: 2nd w/ Susannah Painter married on April 14, 1803, had 2 children Susanna and Jane. 3rd w/ Sarah Russell on May 30, 1821. Richard went to Wayne Co. IN also, like many of the Baldwin's.

• Uriah Baldwin b. March 19, 1764 d. (unknown at this time, will presented 12-10-1844 Wayne Co. IN) Married Hannah Hunt on February 18, 1784 recorded in the Deep River MM, she was b. January 26, 1776 d. November 11, 1831 and is laid to rest in West Grove Cemetery in Wayne Co. IN. I was told Uriah was also buried there but when I got the cemetery records it didn't show his name, so I will have to do more checking on this. They had 14 children: Jesse, Isaiah, William, Josiah, Nathan, Sarah, Elizabeth, Anna, Margaret, Uriah, Hannah, Johnathan, Enos and Asa.

• Elizabeth Baldwin b. December 24, 1766 d. (unknown at this time) Married Joshua Dick on May 21, 1783 recorded in the New Garden MM. There are 11 recorded children: Mary, Elizabeth, Nathan, William, Job, Seth, Sarah, Rhoda, Jesse, Ann and Rebekah

• Mary Baldwin b. August 26, 1770 d. September 7, 1833 in Economy, Wayne Co. IN. She married Walter Thornburg, son of Henry and Rachel (Moon) Thornburg. They had 11 children: Henry, Charity, Elizabeth, William, Jacob, Sarah, Dempsy, Jesse, John, Kinsey and Walter.
