Family of Samuel Brown

Samuel Brown, born in South Carolina in 1772,
is believed to be the grandfather of my 3rd great grandfather Murphy Brown who married Rebecca Poindexter Jones.
Samuel Brown moved from Pendleton District, South Carolina to St. Francois County, Missouri, perhaps as early as 1822;in the mid 1830's the Brown families moved to Searcy County, Arkansas, and then after the 1840 Census they moved to Newton County, Missouri, in the southwest corner of that state. He may have spent a few years in Kentucky before arriving in Missouri as evidence indicates at least the son William left South Carolina about 1815 and three of William's children were born in Kentucky.

Hard evidence in regard to the Browns has been difficult to find not only because of the common surname
but also perhaps because of the many moves
and the fact that all members of the family were apparently illiterate for a few generations.
