MRS. MARY WALTERS HOLLAND, wife of the late Christopher G. Holland, died yesterday at her home on Main Street after a protracted illness of about two months. Since early spring of this year she had been in feeble health, and on July 7th, she was compelled to take to her bed. Mary Catherine Walters was born at Cottage Grove near this city, 17 Nov 1835, and was the daughter of A. G. Walters and wife. Her early life was spent at her home and her education was begun at the Greensboro Female College and completed at Hollins Institute. In 1885, [prob. 1865, 1885] she married the late C. G. Holland. Her children are Messrs. W. W. and W. A. Holland of this city; Mrs. W. D. Judkins of New York; Mr. Frank D. Holland of Atlanta, GA; Mr. C. G. Holland, Mrs. Julian M. Robinson [Bessie], and Miss Nellie M. Holland of this city. Mrs. Holland is also survived by three brothers: Messrs. Felix W., R. A. and A. E. Waters, all of Danville or vicinity. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. Funeral services will conducted from the First Baptist Church tomorrow and interment will be made in Green Hill Cemetery.

Holland Danville, VA, August 18 (Special) The Danville Tobacco Association at a largely attended meeting this morning passed resolutions of respect to the memory of Mr. Christopher G. Holland, for many years prominent in the trace. This afternoon a public meeting of citizens was held in Masonic Hall, Mayor Harry Wooding presiding, to take suitable action on Mr. Holland's death. A series of resolutions eulogistic of the dead were reported by a committee and adopted. Messrs. James P. Harrison, E. G. Mosely, and Thomas Hamlin gave touching personal testimony to the virtues of the deceased. The funeral services will take place at 9 o'clock tomorrow morning from the First Baptist church, Rev. T. B. Christopher Grant Holland, for forty years a prominent citizen and tobacconist of Danville, died suddenly this evening while seated in his office. Apoplexy was the fatal malady. Deceased was born in Franklin county 63 years ago. He was prominent in establishing Danville's now extensive cotton interests and in building of the Atlantic and Danville railway, was for years a member of council and was one of Danville's wealthiest citizens. Holland, one of Danville's oldest and most prominent and esteemed citizens died today at his residence on Main street, after a long illness of Bright's disease; aged 75 years. He was born in Franklin County, Va. where he engaged in the tobacco business at 15 years of age. He moved to Danville in 1850 and began manufacturing and selling tobacco. Mr. Holland was regarded as the pioneer tobacconist of Danville, and was active in this city's advancement as a market and manufacturing centre. For twenty years, up to 1887, he and his brother, the late C. G. Holland, engaged in the manufacture of tobacco, both retiring on account of ill health, after having amassed handsome competences. Deceased was also interested in Danville banking institutions, was for ten years a member and for several years President of the City Council, and was a useful, public-spirited citizen. His son, Charles L. Holland and second wife (nee Fowlkes of Nottoway County) survive. The funeral will take place at 9 o'clock tomorrow morning.
