Joseph's will was dated 12 Apr 1773 and recorded 18 Nov 1773 in Halifax Co VA. He left land to "beloved wife" and then to son Joseph; land to sons Caleb, Joshua and Elias. A land sale just prior to his death is said to have revealed his wife's name to be Patty; this is the only indication of a second wife.

Joseph DODSON and Anne [DODSON] were married.60 Anne [DODSON] was born (date unknown).

In 1787 Nancy Chilton was listed as mother of the bride Elizabeth Dodson. This conflicts with information that Joseph might have had a second wife at the time of his death - see his notes.
