KIRKMAN FAMILY HISTORYSt. Giles, Cropwell, Bishop ChurchNottinghamshire, England (click to view a map) Kevin Lockhart, [email protected], sent the following photos and text about the KIRKMAN family from England. Kevin wrote the captions. April 1, 2001 This photo is called StGiles2.jpg, it is taken from the front of the Church and the main entrance with the family plot is on the right of the picture underneath the big Yew tree which is overhanging the road. |
The next photo is called ChurchName.jpg and is a small photo taken from the front of the church showing the board with the church name (St. Giles, Cropwell Bishop). |
The next photo is called FamilyPlot.jpg and shows the site, at the side of the main church entrance, where the family group is buried. I have maked the grave sites with a yellow x on the pictures as they are hard to see under the shade of the big Yew tree that covers the entance. |
The next photo is called FamilyGroup.jpg and shows the group of headstones under the Yew tree. Because they have been in the shade of the Yew tree for so long they had a fairly thick covering of moss on them which made them difficult to read (though the slate headstones were heavily weathered anyway which made them difficult to read when we cleaned the moss off). |
The next photo is StGiles.jpg. A picture of the church, taken from the front of the tower. The main entrance, where the family plot is situated, is just out of view on the right hand side of the picture. |
The next photo is called StGiles_Sideview1.jpg. This is a picture of the church taken from the opposite side to the family plot. |
The next photo is called StGiles_Sideview2.jpg. This is taken from the same side as the familiy plot, which is to the left of the picture, approx. 10 yards from where the photo was taken (I needed to get out from under the Yew tree to stand any chance of getting a picture from this side). Next on Page 3 are photos of Kirkman Tombstones around Cropwell Bishop Church. |
