Jacob MizerJacob Sidney Miser was born October 20, 1843 in Coshocton County, Ohio. His parents were John Myser (1816-1893) and Julia A. Lethero. Jacob had three brothers and one sister.

Jacob died in 1918 as the first World War was ending. The country and the world had been exhausted by war and disease. A flu pandemic had swept the world, killing and sickening far more people than all the battles.

Delilah Shrock was born December 17, 1848 in Holmes County, Ohio. Her parents were John C. Shrock (1804-1877) and Mary Ann Legams (1820-1903). See the Shrock Family Page for details of John's two marriages and children.

Jacob Sidney Miser and Delilah Shrock were married on May 24, 1866 in German Township, Holmes County, Ohio at her Father's house. Their trancribed marriage certificate and other pages of births, marriages, deaths, and Shrock marriages can be seen from the Bible page. Information about the various documents, corrections and clarrifications are shown inside of parens, ( ).

Mt. Pleasant Farm     I believe Jacob and Delilah moved from Holmes County, Ohio to Fulton County, Ohio about 1866. He purchased 80 acres of land in Pike Township. About half of the land is on an elevated, flat sandy ridge. The remainder was black fertile soil that needed to be tiled and drained by ditches. The original purchaser of the land was Daniel Cook who bought it from the government on March 20, 1837. For more information and a larger photo of the house and barn from about 1900, see the Abstract page.

Jacob was mustered out from service in the Army during the Civil War, on August 13, of 1865. He enlisted in Company G of the 80th Ohio Volunteer Infantryon February 29, 1864 when he was 20 years old.
