OBITUARY NOTICES


SAMUEL WISE, VETERAN OF CIVIL WAR, CALLED BY DEATH

     Shortly after midnight Tuesday death claimed Samuel Wise, 79, at the City Hospital, where he had been confined since June. Death was due to hardening of the arteries and senility.

     Samuel Wise was born in Switzerland December 25, 1838. When four years of age he came to this country with his parents. In 1861 he enlisted in the Civil War and served for three years in the 80th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Co. G.

     Shortly after the close of the war he was united in marriage to Miss Susan Mobley, and they went to California, Mo., to make their home. Three children were born to this union, all of whom survive: Annie and Frank, who make their home in Missouri and Willis Wise, Hardscrabble, with whom Mr. Wise had made his home for some time before he went to the hospital.

     Following the death of his wife, Mr. Wise returned to Coshocton. He was again married, his second wife being Mrs. Mary Wilson. She died a few years ago.

     Besides the three children by his first wife, Mr. Wise leaves the following step children: Mrs. Hettie Poland, Pennsylvania: Chas. Thompson, Indiana: Jerry Thompson, West Virginia: Mrs. Delia Henderson, Mrs. Hiram Tandy and Thomas Wilson all of Coshocton.

Mr Wise was a member of the First Baptist church. He was a member of the local G.A.R. post, and member of the G.A.R. will act as pall bearers at the funeral.

     Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Willis Wise home. Rev C.C. Irwin will be in charge. Members of the Richard Lanning Post will meet in their hall at 1:00 o'clock to attend the funeral in a body.

Buried 2BN Lot 14 R5 G4 -- There is no tombstone for Samuel. In the adjoining burial lot, his last wife, Mary is buried and the next burial lot is Madden Samuel Mobley (her father or brother?).
