Dear Brother

        It is with pleasure that I grasp my pen to wright you a fiew lines to let you no that I am well at this preasant wrighting and to answer your kingt letter bearing date of 24th of July I was glad to hear from you it was the first leter that I have got from you since I have bin back onley the one that you sent them stamps before we went home I got 3 stamps in this last leter from you& got that paper that you sent to us for wee stand in nead of statianary which we cannot buy down hear if you will send me stamps and paper I will pay you for it when I get home I don't like to ask you such favors but I must or els do without I herd that Robert Scott was a gouining to Nashville for statianoary and Tobacou I don't know whether it is the case or not
        Well Oliver I supose that you would like to hear how our armey is getting along
        they air all wright
        the rebs maid 7 charges on the 27th inst our men was in Breast works and the rebs got the worst of it they got killed by the hundreds if they stay theire much longer they will not have aney men to take out Sherman can take them out any time that he seas fit but he dos not deem it nessasary he can do beter he thins
        Well Oliver you spoke about the Draft you wanted to no my advise I do not think it my plase to advise you to go you just your own pleasure do as you think best Their will be a great maney that will have to go not that will not like it but I supose that it is all wright we want to stop this mashien this faul and I think that we can
        Wee air a gowing to stop this war this faul and have old abe for president
        Huraw for Lincon and Johnston

Note: Allen Talbott mustered into Co. D, on Novermber 22, 1861 at the age of 18 for 3 years service. A Joseph Talbott mustered in on the same date at age 21 for 3 years service. Allen served as a sergent and Joseph as a private.
