Tells a little more about Adeline Reed. This obituary of Adaline (Read) (Riggs) (Rice) was found by Joyce McCorkle in the family Bible of her great grandfather, Jesse T. Cowan, Buncombe County, NC. Although she had no idea how (or if) it connected with her family, she posted it on the Internet. Newspaper unknown. Rice----died at the family residence, in the vicinity of Morristown, Tenn., on the 13th Dec. 1879 in the 80th year of her age, Mrs. Adaline Rice, a relief of the late John Rice, of precious memory. Her maiden name was Read. In 1816 she became the wife of Ellis Riggs. For more than thirty years she was to him a faithful wife, and devoted mother to their children. In 1848 Mr. Riggs died, and in 1852 she became the wife of John Rice. In Nov. 1876 she was stricken with paralysis and never recovered sufficiently to converse with her friends. She had been a pure consecrated woman from her youth and adorned through all the vicissitudes of a long and useful life the "doctrine of God her Savior." We laid her remains to rest in Liberty Hill Church yard on the 13th last, amid tears and joys of her friends and neighbors--weeping that they should see her face no more on earth, and rejoicing in full assurance of resurrection. She was a Methodist of the original type, for more than sixty years her house was the preacher's home. She had known, loved and administered to the necessities of the pioneers of Methodism in the beautiful Holston Valley, and continued gladly to do the same for their successors, until she quietly "fell asleep" in Jesus and went to her reward. | Note* | Mr. Mullins; I've been reviewing your genealogy information as posted on RootWeb.com. My Great Great Grand father was Wesley Reed who married Sarah Cam(e)ron October 28, 1845 Van Buren, County Tennessee. They settled on land in Hardin County Illinois prior to June 1854. I've been dabbling in genealogy since 1986 and have some "limited" knowledge on the correct procedures of research. However, I have been unable to find the parents of Wesley REED. The IL census say he was born in TN. I've had hmm tied to Willie & Nancy (Spoon) REED, but can not prove it. I also been told by other Reed researchers that Willie & Nancy did not have a son named Wesley. My mother and Aunt told me (when I was a small boy) that Wesley's mother was a SPOON. This name stuck with me throughout the years and when I started researching the family tree I quickly came across the marriage record of WILLIE & NANCY (Spoon) REED. Though I had found the connection, but have hit a wall in proving it. Do you have any information within your vast amount of research documents that would suggest that I'm on the correct or incorrect trail. Any comments or information would be greatly appreciated.
