He would always call her "daughter" until he became upset about something, at which time he would call her by her first name..."Pearl." His father gave the land and cut the timber from that land to build the first building for Bethel Baptist Church. Years later, Foster, ("pop") was clearing some land next to the church to plant watermelons. As he was burning some brush a spark blew over on the cedar shake roof of the church. The only thing that was saved out of the church was the piano. A young boy, who is now a retired barber and a one arm Negro were able to pull the piano out. I often say that my great grandfather built the church and my grandfather burned it down. Just a little information for your notes. The Sartain's have a family reunion on the first Sunday of December each year at the Hugh White State Park on Grenada Lake. The lake is located east of Grenada, MS. I don't know if you could come, but I know the family would sure like to meet you and help them to understand the history of the Sartain's from your perspective. In Christ's Love, Jimmy D.
