Note | From: Anita Sent: Friday, August 20, 2004 7:02 AM To: Ken Subject: Re: Larkin Stannard Harris Hello again, I have the seven pages from the Bible scanned onto a disc that I could email you. I also have the following documents unscanned. Will of James Harris of Albemarle County (1733 - 1797); will of Margaret Craig Jameson; will of Jane Jameson; Revolutionary War record of Samuel Jameson which includes pages from the family Bible that shows Hannah Jameson's birthdate. I assume you descend from Larking Stannard Harris. His parents were William Harris and Hannah Jameson. I descend from his first cousin William Shelton Harris. William's parents were Wiley Harris and Elizabeth Jameson. Wiley and William were siblings as were Hannah and Elizabeth. I don't have a death date for Hannah but she did testify in her mother's claim for a widow's pension in 1842. Hannah remarried Daniel Maupin in 1812. Hannah's parents were Samuel Jameson and Margaret Craig. Samuel's parents were Samuel Jameson and Jane. The Craig and Jameson's intermarried a lot and I have not gotten far on the Craig line. I have documented my line carefully and my paperwork is now with the DAR for approval. I would like to do more research on the Craig line. Do you have a copy of the marriage for Larkin Harris and Jane Craig? If not do you know where they were married? I am willing to trade information with you. Let me know what I have that you want. I can email the Bible pages to you but the rest have to be sent snail mail. Where do you live? I live in California. Anita | |

Goodspeed Pub Co.) After the battle of Kirksville, when the Federals were looking over their prisoners, it was discovered that among them were some who had previously taken the oath of allegiance to the Provisional Government of Missouri, and were at large on parole and under bond. Some of them had been arrested and paroled two or three times not to take up arms against the authority of the. U nited States, but when the enrolling order of Schofield and Gamble came out, they caught up their shot-guns, and joined Porter. In McN eil's command were hundreds of northeast Missourians, and numbers of the violators of paroles were readily recognized and identified. Some of the prisoners even bore upon their persons copies of their paroles or certificates of loyalty, which were virtually their own death-warrants. For, as is well known, the last sentence of these documents read: "It is hereby understood that for a violation of the terms of this parole the penalty shall be death."* Thursday, the next day after the battle, quite a number of "oath breakers," as they were called, were tried by a Federal drum-head court martial, convened by McNeil, in Kirksville, and fifteen of them were convicted of repeated violations of their paroles, and sentenced to be shot. It was a hard sentence and a short shrift, for McNeil approved the proceedings and the order, and the poor fellows were executed the same day. Their names as can best be learned now, were William Bates, R. M. Galbreath, Lew is Rollins, William Wilson, Columbus Harris, Reuben Thomas, or Thompson, Thomas Webb and Reuben Green, of Monroe County; Jam es Christian, David Wood, Jesse Wood and Thomas Stone, of Shelby; B. Hayden and William Sallee, of Marion, and John Kent, of Adair. Larking Stannard Harris born 30 August 1800 in Albemarle County, Virginia to William Harris and Hannah Jameson.
William was born 30 January 1770 and died 5 February 1806, both occurring in Albemarle County. I have documented information on Larking's siblings, grandparents and great grandparents if you are interested. One grandfather served in the Revolution.

HI Ken,
I have been working on the Larkin Harris family info. Even though I have been working on the family for years it seems like there are always update and changes (i guess that is a good thing...)
I am sending a PDF file with Larkin and his children. Tonight I'll try to send another file with the census info that you may or may not be interested in. When I transfered my file from one program to a new one a lot of the sources got left off and I am slowly getting them re-entered.
SO if you see something and want to know where it came from - ask, I'll be glad to share anything I have And I'm always looking for help! I don't really know of anyone else who has a interest in this family with an exception of one cousin who is a 'Harris' but not really into genealogy.
If you go to http://www.gencircles.com/users/spritch/1/data/3407 you will find info about Jane Craig (Larkin's wife) this is all I know about Jane and I have not been able to confirm the marriage date in VA.
I don't have any information at all on Larkin before coming to MO (they didn't have the witness protection program in the 1830's did they?) My wife and I have had very good luck in finding the grave stones of most of Larkins children at Spencer Chapel Cemetery. The only list that I have come across for that cemetery didn't have a lot of the Harris's
listed. The stones had fallen over and sunk into the ground a couple inches and were completely covered. I have spoken to a guy in Macon at the funeral home and he is going to have the stones set in concrete to preserve them and keep them from sinking again.
I noticed on your family tree that some of the Mullins married Maupins. The land that Larkin purchased in Monroe Co was from a Thomas Maupin. Also at Spencer Chapel Cemetery there are a lot of Maupins buried there (and still living in the area.)
Now, I have a question about Susan. You say she was buried at Stone Cemetery (NE1/4 SW1/4), Diamond, Neosho, MO. Is that cemetery in Diamond or Neosho? Have you ever been to this cemetery?
That's about it for now, like I said I'll send another file this eve.
Thanks for your info and Welcome to Larkin's family.
