Bishop Abraham Doerksen2. Abraham DOERKSEN was born on Sep 11 1852 in Bergthal Colony, Russia. He died on Jan 25 1929 in Mexico. He came to Canada with his father Abraham in 1874. He was called to the Ministry March 23, 1892. and elevated the following year, November 23, 1893, to the rank of Elder, which is the Equivalent of Bishop, and is the highest rank in the Mennonite church. He was the founding Bishop of the Sommerfelder Gemeinde near Altona Manitoba Canada. He was a forceful speaker and gifted with a powerful voice for his work. During his 36 years of service to the church he became known to thousands far and wide. He emigrated to Mexico in 1922 where he died in 1929. His daughter Maria and her husband Peter Friesen were known to have emigrated to Mexico at the same time. Abraham DOERKSEN and Maria (Dueck) Doerksen had the following
